Iraq will recall its Chargé d’Affaires in Ankara for consultations and summon the Turkish ambassador to Baghdad for explanations, following the bombing that killed eight civilians in Iraqi Kurdistan, as the government announced yesterday.
This decision was made during the meeting of the national security cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kazimi, APA MPA reports.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs was instructed “to summon the ambassador of Turkey in Iraq to point out to him” that Baghdad condemns the deadly bombing. Also, the Iraqi chargé d’affaires in Ankara is recalled and the process of appointing a new ambassador to Turkey is interrupted.
The cabinet, which includes the Interior, Defence, and Finance Ministers, also demands a formal apology from Turkey and “the withdrawal of its Armed Forces from all Iraqi territory.”
According to the state news agency INA, Baghdad also plans to file a complaint to the United Nations Security Council.
