The Andros Maritime Association successfully organized the seventh Maritime Event, which was held at the premises of the Hellenic Maritime Club on May 10.
At this year’s event, current issues related to the commercial, technological and regulatory sectors of international shipping were discussed.
Executives of shipping companies, industry personnel as well as representatives of companies that have developed modern solutions and products utilized in the wider shipping field took part in an event which provided the opportunity to exchange particularly useful views and information about the future of the industry.
ALTUS LSA attended the 7th Maritime Event, in which it participated as a sponsor. In collaboration with MTIS (Maritime Technology Innovative Solutions), ALTUS LSA provides solutions to shipping challenges such as:
- Inspection of ship’s structural condition
- Recording of shipments – unloadings and volumetric calculations
- Small cargo transportation from ship to port and vice versa
- Emission measurements – gas leak detection
- Identification of piracy threats and monitoring of dangerous situations
- Search and rescue missions
At this point, it should be recalled that ALTUS is already a pioneer in this field, as the association of Greek companies ALTUS – ADAPTIT was assigned an important project in terms of European data through a tendering procedure by the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA).

The project’s scope is the Provision of Services through Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) on behalf of the Port Authorities of EU member-states with the aim of measuring the sulfur content of ship emissions and their compliance with the relevant EU directive.
Research shows that up to 50,000 people die each year in the EU due to marine pollutants. This project is an important step in protecting public health and tackling climate change.
This collaboration participates in the project using Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and a solution based on a Cloud application that will perform the following main actions:
- Collection of real-time data (video, emission measurements) to be received from the ground control station of UAVs
- Calculation of the sulfur level in the emissions of the inspected ship
- Processing, storing and sending this data to the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) in real time using IT infrastructure in order to be further used by the Organization to end users
In addition to the regular measurements, in any emergency incident in a European maritime area, the above procedure will be performed ad hoc following an order from the European Maritime Safety Agency in order to deal with the incident in a timely manner.

“In an international environment where uncertainty prevails, challenges are multiple and immediate, innovative and reliable solutions are required. ALTUS declares its presence with 10 years of expertise and experience in the important and competitive field of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles.
By providing innovative and reliable products such as the ATLAS 4 and in addition to supplying the Armed and Security Forces, ALTUS now undertakes important work in the emerging market for measuring emissions and air quality, an area that not only is important to public health but also contributes to monitor climate change.
This program is an important recognition of our capabilities and our competitive advantage to integrate different requirements in our UAVs to meet demanding and different types of operational needs,” stressed Mr. Zacharias Sarris, President and CEO of ALTUS LSA.
According to the company, the ATLAS 4 is a high-capability platform with regards to endurance (up to 70 minutes), range (up to 20 kilometers) and payload (up to 10 kg).
In this way it can perform a variety of demanding applications such as aerial surveillance and information/data collection, cargo handling and network surveillance.
