The first delivery of medical supplies using drones by ALTUS LSA took place at noon on Tuesday, September 21 in Trikala.
The Municipality of Trikala and e-trikala SA proceeded to implement the innovative service in collaboration with ALTUS LSA, which in the future will be able to offer exceptional benefits to the citizens of the area. This delivery was made using the Atlas-4 Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV).
ATLAS 4 features
- Can fly up to 3,000 meters (approximately 9,000 feet)
- Autonomy of about 45 minutes
- Temperature & humidity control system supplied by the Greek company Ham Systems
- Maximum takeoff payload: 2 kg
The Atlas-4 was built specifically for the implementation of the program. In the first phase, it will be trialled for the transportation of medicines from SYFTA (Pharmacists Cooperative of Trikala) to the pharmacies of the villages of Leptokarya, Kefalovryso, and Mikro Kefalovryso of the Municipality of Trikala.
The test flight period will last for the next three months.

The innovations of this program are:
- First-ever urban coverage of such a UAV system
- Cooperation of operators to deliver medical supplies according to law
- The integration of the flight in the European Mobility Week
- The offer of scholarships from ALTUS LSA to acquire A1-A3 drone operatorlicense.
The maiden flight
During the maiden test flight, ATLAS 4 transported emergency medicines (like adrenaline) and landed at the pharmacy of the settlement of Leptokarya in the Municipality of Trikala, where they were received by the local pharmacist.
According to the company, the main goal of the program is to send medicines to remote areas. The experience of Trikala will be transferred to the EU with all the necessary remarks from the gained experience, in order for the Harmony program – in the framework of which this project is carried out – to be enriched, supplemented, corrected, and utilized in other missions in the future.
