Russian forces have now completely withdrawn from northern Ukraine to Belarus and Russia, the British military intelligence service announced yesterday, 8/4, while in a post on Twitter, the British Ministry of Defence adds that at least part of these Russian forces will be transferred to eastern Ukraine to fight in Donbas.
The Russian forces will need to be re-equipped before they can advance further east, the Ministry said, noting that any mass rearrangement from the north is likely to take at least a week.
At the same time, the bombardment by Russian forces continues in cities in eastern and southern Ukraine, while Russian forces have moved further south than the city of Izium, which remains under their control, the British Ministry of Defence also points out.
In addition, the head of the regional administration of Sumy, Dmitry Zivitsky, said yesterday that Russian forces have withdrawn from this region in northeastern Ukraine, while in terms of the explosions that can be heard, he notes that they are due to the efforts of rescue teams and firefighters to disable ammunition left behind by Russian units.
Zivicki also stressed that the area is not yet safe, as mines have been planted in many places and warned people not to drive on the side of the road, not to use forest paths, and not to approach damaged military equipment.
Along with the Donetsk, Luhansk, Kharkiv, and Kyiv regions, the Sumy region was one of the areas attacked by Russian forces since the beginning of the war more than a month ago. Russia recently announced it would concentrate its military operations in eastern Ukraine.
