Hungary will start receiving Russian gas via the Turkstream pipeline in early October. Hungary has already participated with MOL in 2020 in the ten-year development plan, which includes the construction of a pipeline from Serbia to Hungary.

Yesterday, on September 27, 2021, the Russian company Gazprom announced that it had signed with MVM CEEnergy Ltd in Budapest two long-term gas supply contracts from Russia to Hungary. The contracts, aiming to meet the Hungarian energy needs over the next 15 years, cover the total supply of 4.5 billion cubic meters of gas per year. According to Gazprom, as of October 1, Hungary will be able to supply Russian gas through the TurkStream pipeline and the pipelines of Southeast Europe. This was made possible by the efforts of Hungarian, Serbian and Bulgarian companies.

The Turkstream pipeline transports Russian gas through Turkey. It has a length of 930 km, reaches a depth of 2200 m, with a design capacity of 31.5 billion cubic meters of gas per year.
