The Iraqi Directorate of General Military Intelligence announced on March 3 that the Iraqi Air Force (IQAF) had carried out air strikes on Islamic State hideouts in northern Iraq.
IQAF F-16 fighter jets hit a network of ISIS fighters’ hideouts between northern Saladin and southern Kirkuk and released a video depicting the action of the Iraqi aircraft.
According to General Yehia Rasool, a spokesman for the Iraqi Army, seven terrorists were killed in the air strikes.
Islamic State enclaves in northern and western Iraq have recently carried out several deadly attacks. On February 28, 14 members of the Iraqi military and pro-government forces were killed or wounded in a car bomb attack in the western province of al-Anbar.
The northern and western parts of Iraq are unlikely to be safe in the near future. Islamic State influence in these areas continues to grow, despite government efforts.
