A Memorandum of Cooperation between the Joint Rescue Coordination Center and the Cyprus Fire Service was signed on Friday, February 12, 2021.
The aim of the Memorandum is the regulation of all operational issues of the Larnaca and Paphos Airports Lifeguard Teams, with the aim of their integration in the Search and Rescue System (SAR) and their operational cooperation with the Fire Service and specifically with the Fire Stations of the 2 airports, so as to fully meet the requirements of aviation international organizations.
The operation of Lifeguard Teams at Larnaca and Paphos airports further improves the capabilities of the SAR System of the Republic in response to aviation incidents and in maintaining its readiness to deal with emergencies within the surrounding area of the airports and especially in the inaccessible area of the salt lake near Larnaca airport with the use of specialized equipment (Hovercrafts, speedboats, waterways, lifeboats, etc.).
