The US Army has recently announced an agreement with General Dynamics Land Systems (GDLS) providing for the manufacture, test and delivery of the Stryker A1 Interim Maneuver Short-range Air Defence Vehicle (IM-SHORAD) of $1.219 billion.
The goal of the IM-SHORAD (Interim Maneuver-Short Range Air Defence) program is to provide tactical ground units with improved defence capabilities against emerging threats on the modern battlefield.
General Features
General Dynamics Land Systems is the manufacturer of the platform for the Stryker A1 vehicle, while Leonardo DRS and Raytheon will provide the mission package equipment for the IM-SHORAD system and its armament.
IM-SHORAD is installed in the General Dynamics Stryker A1 8 × 8 armored vehicle, equipped with a Caterpillar C9 450hp engine. Its eight (8) tires offer superior mobility and increased speed in all terrain conditions.
The Stryker A1 double “V” hull configuration offers high survivability against mines and improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
Sensors
The vehicle will be equipped with a full range of sensors such as identification friend or foe antenna (IFF), as well as Rada’s multi-mission hemispheric radar (MHR radar).
The MHR features a 4D Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) pulse-doppler and software-defined radars to meet multiple operational requirements. In addition, the vehicle features L3Harris WESCAM electro-optical sighting system with infrared camera (EO/IR) and an electronic warfare system (E/W).
Armament
The vehicle is equipped with Moog’s Reconfigurable Integrated-weapons Platform (RIwP) which provides increased survivability against aerial threats.
The turret is armed with kinetic and non-kinetic weapons to detect, identify, track and destroy emerging threats.
The RIwP allows for a variety of weapon configurations, including a pair of AGM-114L Longbow Hellfire air-to-surface missiles and four Raytheon Stinger’s man-portable air defence systems for engaging aerial targets within a range of 4,800m.

The secondary armament of the system includes a 30mm XM914 Bushmaster Gun and a 7.62 mm M240 coaxial machine gun.
The initial US Army order for 28 Stryker IM-SHORAD vehicles amounts to $ 230 million.
