The decision of Turkey and the occupying regime to extend for use part of the coastal front of the enclosed city of Famagusta is an illegal and blatant violation of international law and UN Security Council resolutions. The Republic of Cyprus has already denounced these violations, the President of the Republic Nikos Anastasiadis stated.
“I consider the decision of Turkey and the occupation regime to extend for use part of the coastal front of the enclosed city of Famagusta as an illegal and blatant violation of international law and Security Council resolutions 550 (1984) and 789 (1992),” a written statement by President Anastasiadis stated.
The President also added that “the Republic of Cyprus has not remained and will not remain inactive,” as it has already denounced these violations to the Security Council and its five Permanent Members, to the UN Secretary General, to the heads of the EU institutions, to the leaders of the member states of the Union, as well as in all international fora in which the Republic of Cyprus participates.”
“At the same time, Turkey and the occupying regime are called upon to comply with UN Security Council resolutions and United Nations resolutions, as well as those contained in the recent European Council Conclusions, ending unilateral illegal actions in order to allow a new Initiative of the UN Secretary General aimed at the final settlement of the Cyprus problem, within the framework of what has been agreed but also determined by a series of UN resolutions and decisions of the UN Security Council and within the framework of European principles and values”, the President notes.
