Turkey is in favor of a win-win policy on the issue of the Eastern Mediterranean and the crisis with Greece, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan was quoted as saying, acknowledging, however, that Germany wants to mediate but also support its strategic partner, France.
In his speech to his party’s Central Committee, the Turkish president reportedly said about Greece and the Eastern Mediterranean that “Turkey’s arguments have always been the same and in accordance with international law. Compare what we have been saying with the countries we have talked about on all issues of diplomacy and especially on the Eastern Mediterranean to date. Research the support we have offered to these countries and especially to Greece in the past. Explain to the public how we got to this day. Turkey has always had the same positions. On the contrary, the leaders of countries such as France and Greece were constantly changing. The attitudes and views were different, a tide was created,” said the Turkish President.
Tayyip Erdogan is said to have argued that Turkey has a 100% right in the Eastern Mediterranean. “We do not give up our rights. We can sit at the table with everyone except southern Cyprus. This does not mean that we are giving up on our rights. We can find a common ground where everyone can win. We can implement a win-win policy. But Greece does not accept it. We will continue to do everything at the table. We support the political solution. Germany wants to mediate but must somehow support its strategic partner, France,” he said.
