Türkiye will now be the name of Turkey at the United Nations, to avoid confusion with the similar English word meaning “turkey”.
The campaign for the name change was launched at the end of 2021 with the aim of strengthening the country’s brand.
Turkish authorities have already launched advertising campaigns to announce the name change to the international public and #HelloTürkiye is being used on social media.

Turkish Foreign Minister, Mevlüt Çavuşoglu, wrote in a Twitter post:
“The campaign launched under the leadership of our President Erdoγan to strengthen the value of our country’s name is coming to an end. In the letter I sent today to the UN Secretary-General, we registered the name of our country in foreign languages at the UN as “Türkiye”. My best wishes!”
