The inauguration ceremony of the new premises of the Joint Rescue Coordination Center of the Republic of Cyprus was held today in Larnaca.

The ceremony was held by the Minister of Defence, Mr. Charalambos Petrides, and the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Mr. Yiannis Karousos, in the presence of Governmental officials and representatives of the agencies related to the Centre, which also had the opportunity to tour the new premises.

The construction of the new premises, which was undertaken by Cyta, commenced in February 2020 and was concluded in June of the same year. Since then, the Center has been operated in its new premises.

All of the Center’s Departments are housed in the same premises, namely the Search and Rescue Operations Center, the Satellite Mission Control Center, the “CYPRUS RADIO” Coastal Station and the “ZENON” Coordination Center. This in turn benefits the Center’s operation by maximizing its capabilities and improving the provided services, while it also drastically reduces the running cost.

Seventy per cent of the overall cost of the project was funded by European Funds managed by the European Funds Unit of the Ministry of the Interior and more specifically the Internal Security Fund – External Border and Visa.
