Russia’s State Duma, the lower house of parliament, voted Wednesday to suspend Russia’s participation in the New START nuclear arms control treaty with the US.

The vote came after Russian President, Vladimir Putin, said on Tuesday that Russia would suspend its participation in the treaty.

The upper house of the Russian parliament, the Federation Council, is due to vote on Wednesday afternoon in Moscow.
