A coronavirus case in the Police was confirmed to the Cyprus News Agency, by Police Spokesman Christos Andreou, while noting that all the Ministry’s protocols are being followed.

Responding to a question from the CNA on the issue, Mr Andreou said that “unfortunately, a case of a colleague serving at the Police Headquarters was actually identified”.

He added that following the briefing given to the Chief of Police Kypros Michaelides, instructions were given in order for the Ministry of Health protocols in the workplace to be implemented.

He also said that today is expected for a disinfection on all the colleague’s work premises, to take place.

At the same time, Mr. Andreou added, police officer’s contacts are being tracked in order to isolate them for a period of 14 days in accordance with the protocols.

Police might temporarily evacuate the place where the policeman worked and the people who worked there would move elsewhere.

“Unfortunately, our members are always at the forefront and thus a coronavirus case was expected”.

Of course, he noted, “it is difficult for us because our goal was to stay unaffected by this virus as much as we could in order to be able to offer our services to society the best way possible”.

“You realize it’s going to be a big blow because we don’t know how many people had come in contact with him and most of them were probably police officers”,he added.

According to the CNA, the member of the Police who was infected with COVID-19 is an officer who had contacted a confirmed case and had isolated himself as soon as he was informed of the incident.
