Participation of the “HYDRA” frigate in the EU operation “IRINI” for Libya

The frigate “HYDRA” sailed on Tuesday, May 12, from the Salamis Naval Base in the context of its participation in the operation of the European Union “IRINI”.

The Navy will also develop an organic helicopter, as well as a specially trained team to carry out ship inspections.

The frigate “HYDRA” (F-452) is of the type ‘MEKO 200 HN’, it has a length of 117 meters, displacement of 3,350 tons, CODOG propulsion mechanism (Combined Diesel Or Gas) with 2 turbines LM2500 and 2 diesel MTU20V engines developing speed up to 30 knots. It can carry a crew of 250 people.

She is armed with 1 5-inch/54-gun, 2 Phalanx close-in weapon systems, 8 Harpoon guided surface-to-surface missiles, 16 surface-to-air ESSM (Evolved Sea Sparrow Missile), 2 triple Torpedo launchers Mk32, Electronic countermeasures launcher and similar electronic equipment. It can also carry an S-70B-6 Aegean Hawk Helicopter.
