Yesterday’s meetings of the Greek Foreign Minister, Nikos Dendias in Egypt ended with satisfactory results.

According to Greek diplomatic sources, yesterday’s meeting between Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias and his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry took place in an excellent atmosphere.

Both bilateral relations and regional developments were discussed. “In this context, it was unequivocally stressed that there is no prospect of delimiting the EEZ between Egypt and Turkey. Relevant publications that spoke of an Egypt-Turkey rapprochement were even characterized as misleading”, the same sources state.

At the same time, these sources state that the Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum has issued a new map of blocks in which the position of the block east of the 28th meridian is reassigned. As the Greek Foreign Minister pointed out in his statement from Larnaca yesterday, this amendment is a technical issue concerning the Egyptian side.

Regarding the Greek side, the issue that had arisen in the previous days has been resolved.

Finally, in Athens, the meeting that Nikos Dendias had with the Secretary General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, is emphasized. “During this meeting, the Arab official spoke extensively and strongly criticized Turkey’s continued interference in the internal affairs of Arab states, such as Libya, Syria, but also Iraq. It was also agreed that the consultations between Greece and the Arab League should start immediately in order to sign a relevant Memorandum of Understanding,” note diplomatic sources in Athens.
