NATO | “We have the right to deploy forces in Eastern Europe” – Russia has repealed Founding Act
Defence Redefined

NATO no longer commits itself to promises it made in the past not to deploy troops in Eastern Europe after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, said the Deputy Secretary-General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.

The Charter of Mutual Relations, Cooperation, and Security between NATO and the Russian Federation, signed 25 years ago, provided, among other things, for measures taken against “any deployment of conventional forces” in Central and Eastern Europe.

However, by invading Ukraine and severing all dialogue with the Atlantic Alliance, Russia “has repealed the content of the Founding Act,” Mircea Joanna said in an interview with AFP in Vilnius.
