Every year, more and more money is extorted from Hungarians online through fraud, putting almost all users at risk.

Hundreds of students in Budapest attended a special event to protect themselves from online threats, organized by the Hungarian police.

Experts showed them what to look for in the behaviors and posts from users with many followers, offers, gifts, and opportunities that appear on their screen.

34 classes from 23 schools and nearly 1,000 students had the opportunity to attend the program. The aim is to offer pilot programs and for students to absorb what is taught, taking the new knowledge with them, said Tamas Terdik, police commander in Budapest.

One of the key chapters, which concerned the education of young students, is how connecting to public WiFi makes them vulnerable to losing their personal data.

The risks, as the speakers pointed out, are not theoretical but real and costly.

Fraudsters stole more than 9 billion Hungarian forints over the internet two years ago and another 23 billion last year, according to the National Bank of Hungary. This means that practically everyone is at risk, and it is a good idea to protect themselves from online scams, according to Euronews.
