Exercise “LOCKED SHIELDS 23” took place from Monday 17 to Friday 21 April 2023 at the Hellenic National Defence General Staff (HNDGS). The exercise was organized by the Cooperative Cyber ​​Defence Center of Excellence of NATO (CCDCOE) in Tallinn of Estonia and constitutes NATO’s largest and most complex international cyber defence exercise.

The exercise, which has been held since 2010, took place with the participation of more than 3000 participants from 38 countries. On the Greek side, there was the participation of personnel of the Joint Center for Cyber ​​Defence Operations of the Directorate of Cyber ​​Defence of the HNDGS and personnel from cyber security departments of the General Staff as well as respective personnel by the Hellenic Police.

“LOCKED SHIELDS 23” was conducted through CCDCOE’s digital training platform and aimed to train participants in countering cyber-attacks at the technical, operational, and strategic levels, strengthening the capabilities of NATO and its allies in the defence of network infrastructures as well as deepening their cooperation in cyberspace.

According to an announcement by the HNDGS, during the exercise, scenarios were carried out in the context of dealing with cyber attacks against information, telecommunication, economic and energy systems.
