On Friday, September 8, 2023, the Command, Staff, and Greek Company of the 2nd Multinational Battalion of the “Kosovo Force Operational Reserve Force” (KFOR ORF) left Greece for the BONDSTEEL Military Camp in Kosovo. The latter is also the Headquarters of the peacekeeping mission KFOR, which facilitates the conduct of security missions, thus contributing to NATO’s immediate reaction capability in the Kosovo region.

The Hellenic Armed Forces, in the context of the long-term planning of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff (HNDGS) regarding the contribution and participation in the actions of the Alliance, undertook the organization of the Multinational Battalion following the need to create a multinational force by the Joint Force Command Naples (JFC NAPLES).

According to a relevant announcement, the deployment order was received by JFC NAPLES, following the successful evaluation of the Battalion by a NATO Evaluation Team, which was completed on Friday, September 1, 2023.

Greece’s assumption of command of the 2nd Multinational Battalion of the “Kosovo Force Operational Reserve Force” (KFOR ORF) highlights the continuous and dynamic presence of the Hellenic Armed Forces, proving their decisive contribution to the emergence of the Country as a pillar of security and stability in the sensitive Balkan region.

In the above context, on Thursday, September 07, 2023, a departure ceremony was held at the military camp “Lieutenant CHADJIIOANNIS XENOFONTAS” Camp in Nea Santa, Kilkis, which was attended by the Commander of the 3rd Army Corps/NRDC-GR, Lieutenant General Paris Kapravelos.
