Hellenic Army | Acquisition of the first M1117 Armored Security Vehicles

The first M1117 Armored Security Vehicles (ASV) were delivered today at the 301st factory of the Hellenic Army Technical Directorate. The vehicles are painted in the camouflage colors of the Hellenic army and are equipped with a 12.7 mm machine gun, a 40 mm grenade launcher and a 7,62 machine gun.

The ceremony was attended by the Minister of National Defence, Mr. Nikos Panagiotopoulos, the Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff (HNDGS), General Konstantinos Floros, the Chief of the Hellenic Army General Staff (HAGS), Lieutenant General Charalambos Lalousis and the American Ambassador to Athens, Jeffrey Payat. 

The Hellenic Army, according to the statements of the Chief of HNDGS, is expected to acquire a total of 1200 M1117 ASVs from the USA as Excess Defence Articles (EDA).

M1117 ASV Guardian Technical characteristics:

  • Weight: 13,410 kg
  • Length: 6 meters
  • Width: 2.56 meters
  • Height: 2.6 meters
  • Engine: Cummins 6CTA8.3, 280 hp
  • Range: 644 km at a speed of 64 km/h
  • Maximum speed: 110 km/hour
