A CH-148 Cyclone helicopter, not a Sikorsky CH-124 Sea King, was the one that crashed west of Kefalonia on Wednesday 29/4.

The helicopter had taken off from the Canadian frigate HMCS Fredericton (FFH 337). We remind that out of the total of 6 passengers of the helicopter, one was confirmed dead, while the efforts to find the other passengers continue.

The HMCS Fredericton frigate participates in the NATO force SNMG2, in which both Greece and Turkey participate.

The helicopter, as we have already mentioned, crashed in a sea area west of Kefalonia and specifically 20 nautical miles west of the Athens FIR limit. For this reason, there has been no involvement of the Greek authorities in the search and rescue.

In a statement, the Canadian Armed Forces said that they had contacted the families of the passengers.
