Egypt’s firm position on the need to withdraw foreign troops from Libya was pointed out by the Egyptian Foreign Minister, Sameh Shoukry, to the UN Special Envoy for Libya, Jan Kubis.

During their meeting in Cairo on Sunday, the Egyptian Foreign Minister briefed the Special Envoy for Libya on Egypt’s efforts to reach a political reconciliation in the country. He affirmed the necessity for the completion of the current political process with elections to be held late this year. He also reiterated the need for a ceasefire by all parties, as well as for the fight against any attempt to prevent the unification of Libya’s security institutions or promote division in the country.

For his part, UN Special Envoy for Libya Jan Kubis briefed the Egyptian Foreign Minister on the results of his contacts with all parties involved in Libya and welcomed Egypt’s firm support for a political solution in the country.
