The European Defence Agency officers participated in the EU Climate Security and Defence Training Platform kick-off meeting.
The meeting took place in Larnaca between February 15-16, 2024.
EU Member States, representatives from the academia and EU institutions, including the European Defence Agency, the European Commission, the European External Action Service, collaborated to support the European Security and Defence College (ESDC) in launching this pivotal initiative.
This platform aims to unify various training providers and systematically address the diverse needs of training audiences, aligning with the EU’s Joint Communication on the climate-security nexus.
During the meeting, Dr. Constantinos Hadjisavvas, senior defence policy advisor at the European Defence Agency, had the opportunity, among others, to:
- Highlight EDA’s – CFSEDSS contributions to improving defence climate change adaptation and resilience;
- Discuss recommendations from the EDA and EU Science, Research and Innovation (DG JRC) joint study on climate change impacts;
- Inform about the forthcoming DG JRC publication “Guidance for Climate Risk Management”, to which EDA contributed.
Special thanks were given to ESDC’s Training Manager, Igor Cebek, for the coordination of the event and to the Cyprus Security and Defence Academy, especially Symeon Zambas, for the exceptional hosting and organisation.
