Cyprus | 86 immigrants rescued east of Cape Greco – Implementation of NEARCHOS Plan

At 3:30 pm on August 20, 2023, the Larnaca Police Department was informed by the Port and Maritime Police that a boat carrying immigrants was in danger. The said boat was sailing at a distance of 12 nm east of Cape Greco, within the SAR area of ​​responsibility of the Republic of Cyprus.

The Joint Rescue Coordination Center (JRCC) proceeded with the implementation of the National Plan “NEARCHOS” by mobilizing the “Onisillos”, “E. Pallikaridis” and “Astrapi 32” fast craft of the Port & Maritime Police along with an OKYPY ambulance.

All 86 people rescued (61 men, 6 women and 19 children) were safely transferred at 16:45 to the Marina of Ayia Napa where the competent Services of the Republic will take over.
