Two people were pulled alive from the wreckage of the An-26 military transport plane that crashed today in Almaty, Kazakhstan, according to the city’s health services.

The plane belonged to the Kazakhstan border guard, which reports to the country’s National Security Committee. A total of 6 people were aboard and the Ministry of Emergency Situations reported that four of the passengers were dead.

Photos and videos from the crash site show the plane overturned, on fire surrounded by dense smoke soaring in the sky, visible from a nearby freeway. The causes of the accident remain unclear.

It is noted that accidents with this type of aircraft are not uncommon. The most recent was the crash of a Ukrainian An-26 on September 25, 2020, which killed 25 Ukrainian soldiers.
