Amid the tense situation in the Middle East, Nicosia assures that it is ready to manage a possible evacuation of third-country nationals through Cyprus.

The issue was discussed in the meeting that Nikos Christodoulidis had in New York with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi.

The president of the Republic of Cyprus also met with the Prime Minister of Lebanon, Najib Mikati, who praised the Republic of Cyprus’s role as a pillar of stability in the region.

Cyprus declares that it will facilitate the arrival of Lebanese citizens seeking protection, if necessary.

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis also had talks with his Lebanese counterpart, who expressed his support for the proposal for an immediate 21-day ceasefire.

In Athens by flight from Beirut

Lebanese citizens who arrived in Athens on a flight from Beirut described the dire situation in the country.

Greece has recommended a complete avoidance of visits to Lebanon amid the escalating violence and the immediate departure of Greek visitors there.
