Force Ordnance, the defence arm of Lightforce Group, will supply 120 NYX advanced binocular night-vision devices to the ADF, as part of the Dismounted Combat Program.

As part of the contract, Force Ordnance will also deliver training to instructors at the Royal Military College and School of Infantry.

The announcement comes following a contract between Lightforce and Theon Sensors in 2018 for the manufacturing, assembly, test, distribution and through-life support of Theon Sensors products.

This partnership has been instrumental in advancing Theon’s NYX product family of Night Vision binoculars and providing the Australian Defence Forces with state-of-the-art MIL-STD products that enhance their operational capabilities, Mr. Kolotos added.

As the lightest Night Vision binocular in its category, named after NYX, the Greek goddess of the night, given birth to Aether (Brightness) and Hemera (day), this system features rugged and user-friendly design based on real user feedback.

NYX is a cutting-edge, full MIL-SPEC, image-intensified, dual tube binocular that is able to be operated helmet-mounted, head-mounted or hand-held. It offers better depth perception than single tube systems making it easier to estimate distances and relative motion and so, the ability to perform tasks such as driving is greatly improved. 

NYX includes an integrated infrared illuminator, reducing the need for the fighter to carry a separate illuminator. Image intensifiers enable soldiers to operate in low- and/or no-light combat scenarios more effectively.

For momentary configuration changes, the user can flip away each monocular separately. With both monoculars flipped away and flipped up, the system stows along the contour of the helmet thus reducing its silhouette and neck strain, minimizing the danger of system damage. 

Additionally, NYX features self-contained single AA battery power and can be also operated via a remote battery pack at the rear of the helmet for increased operational life.

It also provides optional Manual Gain Control, 25 mm eye relief for improved comfort and a range of accessories including 3X magnifier, antifogging, laser protection filters, and camera adapters.
