Five years after imposing restrictions on arms exports to Turkey, Norway has decided to accept Ankara’s arms applications.
Recep Tayyip Erdogan was the big winner of the most crucial election of the last twenty years in Turkey.
The Turkish leader secured the third presidential term as in the second round of the elections he received 52.16% against 47.84% of Kemal Kilicdaroglu.
According to the Turkish media, on the occasion of the anniversary of the Fall of Constantinople, Erdogan is preparing major shows such as a prayer at Hagia Sophia and fiery speeches both in Ankara and in the other major cities of the country.
After the first results were announced on Sunday afternoon, hundreds of AKP supporters celebrated Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s victory inside the Hagia Sophia, chanting slogans such as “God is great”.
Russian and Brazilian presidents, Vladimir Putin and Lula da Silva, were among the first to congratulate Erdogan. Top European leaders such as German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, French President Emmanuel Macron, and US President Joe Biden followed.
In the opposition, there is frustration, of course. Despite the fact that the Turkish economy is facing severe problems, Kemal Kilicdaroglu failed to convince the society with his program.
Recep Tayyip Erdogan will be at the helm of Turkey for another five years. Analysts estimate that his upgraded nationalist rhetoric will greatly concern both the interior of the country and the Greek-Cypriot side.
