The EU Council of Ministers issued yesterday, Tuesday, November 8, a decision to extend the sanctions for illegal Turkish drilling in the Eastern Mediterranean by one year, until November 12, 2023.
Therefore, the European Union retains its ability to impose targeted restrictive measures on persons or entities responsible for or involved in unauthorized hydrocarbon drilling activities in the Eastern Mediterranean.
Sanctions consist of an EU travel ban and asset freeze for individuals and asset freeze for entities. In addition, EU persons and entities are prohibited from allocating funds to those on the list.
As CNN Greece reports, two people are currently subject to sanctions.
The decision will enter into force after its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union.
