Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias, representing Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, participated earlier in the 3rd International Conference of Heads of State and Government in Support of the Lebanese People. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis was unable to attend the conference due to the ongoing forest fires in Greece.
In his speech, the Foreign Minister underlined the importance that our country attaches to the stability and development of the wider region as well as the continuous support to the friendly people of Lebanon.
In this context, as mentioned in an announcement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he pointed out that Greece will contribute to the strengthening of the Greek Orthodox hospital “Agios Georgios” in Beirut. He also stressed that Greece will prepare a plan for the reconstruction of the Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which was severely damaged in last year’s explosion in the port of Beirut.
It is recalled that Greece was the first country to respond to Lebanon’s call for aid after the catastrophic explosion in the port of Beirut. In this context, a team of the Greek Search and Rescue Team of the Catastrophe Response Special Unit (EMAK), accompanied by Deputy Foreign Minister Costas Frangogiannis, had gone to Beirut the day after the explosion that took place exactly one year ago.
The 3rd International Conference of Heads of State and Government in Support of the Lebanese People was co-chaired by the French President and the UN Deputy Secretary-General.
