Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky, removed the head of the state-owned arms industry Ukroboronprom, Yury Husiev, by way of a decree made public on Tuesday night.

Mr. Hushiev has held this position since December 2020.

According to Ukrainian media, his successor will be Herman Smetanin, head of a factory that produces armored vehicles in Kharkiv.

The offices of the presidency have not officially confirmed this administrative change.

According to the digital newspaper Ukrainska Pravda, Mr. Zelensky expected Mr. Khushiev to increase the production of a short-range ballistic missile system, but the efforts made were deemed insufficient.

Kyiv is primarily dependent on missiles donated by its allies in the West.
