Military service will engage young people back into society as too many live in their own bubble, UK Home Secretary James Cleverly told the BBC.

The Conservatives have pledged that, if they win the general election, 18-year-olds will have to implement a plan that includes military or civilian service.

Labor hit back saying the plan was “a desperate ploy” without sustainable funding.

The Conservatives say that the plan would include 30,000 military placements, where the brightest and best volunteers would be involved in full-time cyber security or civil response operations for a year.

Everyone else would do 25 days, or one weekend a month for a year, with non-military units such as the fire service, police, NHS or charities.
