The US Air Force announced that the pilot of the downed F-15 has been located, and confirmed deceased. The jet had crashed earlier today off the coast of Yorkshire in northern England during a “routine training mission”.
“This is a tragic loss to the community of the 48th Fighter Wing and we express our deepest condolences to the pilot’s family and to the 493rd Fighter Squadron,” the Squadron’s Commander said in a twitter post.

The jet crashed at 9:40 local time (11:40 Cyprus time), according to the U.S military. The fighter, an F-15C Eagle, of the 48th Fighter Wing, was at the British base at Leiknhelt in Saffolk in the east of England, the largest base of the US Air Force in Britain.
