The evolving geopolitical landscape and the complex challenges in the security sector, as well as the dynamics of the domestic defence industry, were referred to by the President of SEKPY, Mr. Anastasios Rozolis, during his opening speech at the DEFEA Conference – Current Strategies for a Challenging World.
Mr. Rozolis underlined the role of Greece as a pillar of stability in the global field of defence and security, highlighting Greece’s strategic partnerships with countries such as Israel, the United States and France, as well as its commitment to NATO and regional alliances.
“2023 was a promising year for the Greek defence industry, with Greek SMEs playing a dominant role in European Defence Fund (EDF) projects.
In particular, the overall participation of Greek small- and medium-sized enterprises in EDF21 and EDF22 was recorded as a number and a percentage in first place among the member states,” he said, highlighting the contribution of Greek companies to EDF-related projects and their impact on the national economy.
Referring to the European Defence Industrial Strategy (EDIS) and the proposed European Defence Industrial Program (EDIP), Mr. Rozolis highlighted the opportunities and challenges that the European defence sector faces.
The President of SEKPY cited the Association’s proposals regarding the strategy of the Greek defence industry, focusing on the establishment of a Deputy Ministry of Defence Industry, the expansion of domestic industrial participation in armament programs and the allocation of national resources for the development of research and innovation in collaboration with the Armed Forces, the companies of the domestic defence industry and the scientific personnel of the country.
