Towing of the Greek-owned tanker MV Sounion, which is 72 nautical miles west of Yemen’s Hodeidah in the Red Sea, is not possible, at least for now, by the private companies that have undertaken the salvage operation of the vessel that was attacked on August 21.

According to information from Operation ASPIDES, since September 1st, the company has been assisting by offering protection to the tugboats sailing near the MV Sounion with the aim of avoiding a possible environmental disaster.

The MV Sounion has caught fire and is currently at anchor.

The private companies that have undertaken the towing have announced that it is not possible for the time being to complete this mission, as it is not considered that the towing can be done safely.

Alternative solutions are already being considered by private companies.
