The buffer zone status in the area of Pyla has been restored as it was before the incidents that took place in August, government sources told CNA.
The same sources stated that based on the information received on Friday morning, the occupying authorities have left the buffer zone area.
It is recalled that the procedures for the implementation of the consensus that has been reached, which was announced on October 9 by the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Cyprus, Colin Stewart, are about to begin on October 23.
The Government Spokesman, Konstantinos Letympiotis, has assured in his statement that the Cypriot Government will work with sincere political will to implement the provisions of the consensus which, as he stated, includes provisions that address the concerns of the Republic of Cyprus regarding the status of the buffer zone, which both ensures and restores order in the said area.
Mr. Letympiotis has also noted that the provisions foresee the urban and residential development of the area desired by the residents, for the benefit of all the residents of Pyla, Greek- and Turkish-Cypriots, and create conditions for peaceful and creative coexistence of the residents in a period during which seeks the resumption of talks for a comprehensive solution to the Cyprus problem.
