The radars of the Republic have detected another three ships with a total of 136 irregular immigrants in a sea area off Cape Greco.
Vessels of the Coastal and Maritime Police of Cyprus approached the ships and took them safely to the marina of Ayia Napa. There, the details of the immigrants were recorded and were transferred to the Pournara Reception Center in Kokkinotrimithia.
The Police arrested three men aged 17, 22 and 36, who are allegedly the ship pilots. On Tuesday, all three will be brought before the District Court of Famagusta where detention orders will be issued, according to RIK.
After the mass arrival of immigrants by sea, President Christodoulidis convened the National Security Council on Tuesday morning. The situation will be assessed and additional measures to stop migration flows will be considered.
As broadcast by RIK, the session will be attended by, among others, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Interior, Justice and Defence, the Attorney General and the Police Chief.
