With naval and military forces, Cyprus gives a dynamic presence in the multinational military exercise “Bright Star 2021”, which commences today in Egypt. Greece also participates in the exercise with forces from all three Branches: Army, Navy, and Air Forces.
“Bright Star” has regularly taken place every two years, since 1980, one year after the signing of the peace treaty between Egypt and Israel.
The previous exercise in 2018 – as the 2020 exercise did not take place due to the COVID-19 pandemic – involved troops from Egypt, the United States, Jordan, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, France, Britain, Greece, and Italy, while 16 other countries also attended the exercise as observers.
The multinational exercise “Bright Star 2021” will last until September 17.
