Ministry of Defence | Announces the measures for the classification of 2020 Class
The Ministry of Defence enters the digital era, according to what was announced by the Minister Savvas Angelides during today’s press conference.
According to the Minister, the classification process in the Training Centers is changing radically in order to be disengaged from bureaucracy. The platform for submitting the data and preferences of new recruits is friendly and easily accessible in order to simplify and speed up the ranking.
The second phase of the plan for the classification of new recruits begins today with the submission of certificates and the selection of the Army branch that every conscript wants. In fact, new recruits will be able to choose the size of their uniforms and boots, which will be purchased the day before the classification.

As we have already informed you, the electronic submission is available as of today 12/05 until 12/06, and those newcomers who won’t submit their data on time will not have priority and will be allocated based on the operational needs of the National Guard.
In addition, there will be a telephone support line for the electronic submission of data on schedule from 08:00 in the morning until 20:00 in the evening.
The Minister also stressed that the electronic platform does not affect the reliability of the clasification system and the whole process will be done with meritocracy. He also noted that he has secured all the necessary approvals from the Office of the Commissioner for Personal Data Protection.
He also said that the safety and health of the new recruits is something that is not negotiable and so the ranking process will be different from other times.
All hygiene measures announced by the Ministry of Health will be observed and the program will be tailored accordingly to avoid overcrowding. Mr. Angelidis said more details would be announced later.
He also said that the dismissal of the previous Class (2019) will be carried out normally.
Regarding the classification, as reported by Chief of Defence (CHOD) Lieutenant General Demokritos Zervakis, this will be done in groups of 5 people instead of 10. Each recruit will be checked for temperature and given gloves and masks. Also, the ranking will last 10 days instead of 5-6 as it was in previous years.
Finally, it should be noted that those new recruits who won’t present themselves the predetermined date indicated for their classification, will then be referred for classification in the Training Center of Paphos regardless of their city of residence.
