Prime Minister Najib Mikati told the Paris conference on Lebanon that the arms monopoly must be returned to the Lebanese state and army, as Israel and Hezbollah, heavily armed by Iran, are clashing in open war in southern Lebanon.

Additionally, the Lebanese prime minister during the conference stated that the most important thing today is a ceasefire. He then argued for the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which stipulates that only the Blue Helmets and the Lebanese army should be deployed in southern Lebanon on the border with Israel.

Any future president of the Republic of Lebanon must implement the agreements, which stipulate that weapons should be exclusively in the hands of the Lebanese army and the Lebanese state, he said.
