The government of Georgia Meloni has established new rules for NGOs active in rescuing refugees and immigrants.

The new “code” for NGOs, which was approved on Wednesday night by the Cabinet of the government of Rome, allows the passage and stay in Italian territorial waters, provided that the authorities of the country are immediately notified.

At the same time, as reported by the Italian media, the transfer of refugees and immigrants from one ship to another also belonging to NGOs will no longer be allowed.

NGO ships should immediately request and proceed to a safe port without delay. Otherwise, they will be denied entry into Italian territorial waters.

For those who do not comply with the new rules, the fines will range from 10,000 to 50,000 euros, while the temporary or even permanent confiscation of the ship may be decided.
