Israel has presented to Gaza truce mediators its reservations about Hamas’ proposal to release the hostages and considers this round of negotiations in Cairo to be over, a senior Israeli official said.

Ceasefire talks in the Egyptian capital have made progress, but no agreement has been reached, according to Egyptian sources.

The Israeli delegation is already returning from the Egyptian capital and Israel will proceed with its operations in Rafah and other areas of the Gaza Strip as planned, he added according to Reuters.

Israel has said that it is open to a ceasefire, but has rejected calls to end the war as it has vowed to dismantle Hamas.

Already Israeli battle tanks and warplanes bombarded areas of Rafah earlier.

Benjamin Netanyahu yesterday appeared to ignore US President Joe Biden’s warning that the US would cut off some arms supplies to Israel if it attacked Rafah, with the Israeli Prime Minister saying his country was ready to stand on its own if necessary.

It is recalled that the US President said for the first time on Wednesday (8/5) in an interview with CNNi that he would stop some shipments of US weapons to Israel – which he admitted were used to kill civilians in Gaza – if Netanyahu orders a large invasion of Rafah.
