On Tuesday, April 26, the Police and specifically the Aliens and Immigration Service, carried out an operation with Greek authorities and the European organization FRONTEX, which aimed at the compulsory repatriation of third country nationals.

By joint flight from Greece and Cyprus, 31 persons, nationals of third countries residing in Cyprus, returned to their countries yesterday.

The Police continues to focus its efforts on maximizing the number of returns of third country nationals. In coordination with other competent Services, as of January 1, 2023, the Police proceeded with the repatriation of 2,615 third-country nationals.

Also, the District Court of Famagusta issued an 18-month prison sentence for a 19-year-old, who was found guilty in a case of illegal entry into the Republic, as he was assisting third-country nationals for profit purposes and transporting persons through an unsafe waterway on an overloaded vessel.

The 19-year-old was arrested on February 19, 2023, after the arrival of a boat in the sea area of ​​Famagusta which carried 20 immigrants.
