From Friday 10 to Friday 17 November 2023, the “GORDIAN KNOT 2023” exercise of the NATO Rapid Deployable Corps-Greece (NRDC-GR) Headquarters in the role of a War Fighting Corps (WFC) took place in the wider area of Thessaloniki.
The purpose of the exercise, which was held with the participation of 531 officers of the NRDC-GR and other allied NATO structures from 13 member states of the Alliance, was to train the NRDC-GR Headquarters as a WFC in planning and conducting operations at the tactical level on a multidimensional battlefield, pursuant to Article 5 of the founding treaty concerning collective defence.
On this basis, NRDC-GR personnel were trained in critical Combat Operations and procedures, ensuring interoperability at all levels, in accordance with the Alliance’s applicable procedures and tactics.
It is noted that the NRDC-GR is the constantly evolving Headquarters of NATO Force which, through a multitude of trainings and other actions, maintains high readiness in terms of development in any area of joint operations required in order to be able to successfully face any mission assigned to it.
As stated in the relevant announcement, on Thursday, November 16, 2023, the Distinguished Visitors Day (DV Day) took place at the “PROKOPIDIS” military Camp in Assiro, attended by:
- The Deputy Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff (HNDGS), Vice-Admiral Frangiskos Leloudas, as the representative of the Chief of the HNDGS, General Konstantinos Floros.
- The Deputy Mayor of Development, Municipal Communities and Citizen Service Centers of the Municipality of Thessaloniki, Mr. Haris Aidonopoulos, as a representative of the Mayor, Mr. Konstantinos Zervas.
- The Commander of the 3rd Army Corps/NRDC-GR, Lieutenant General Paris Kapravelos.
- Commanders and Command delegations of the NATO Force Structure, Honorary Commanders of the 3rd Army Corps/NRDC-GR, Consuls and Defence Attaches of the participating NATO member states.
During the exercise, the guests had the opportunity to learn about the operation and mission of a fully developed NATO Force Headquarters, capable of successfully undertaking inter-allied collective defence operations – the most complex and demanding operations – under any conditions and in any area required.
The exercise contributed to increasing interoperability and synergy between the personnel of NATO member states, promoting the level of operational readiness, combat capability and cooperation in an allied context.
