Greece was elected yesterday, Thursday June 6, as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for 2025-2026 with the support of 182 states.
The Hellenic Republic assumes the position in the Security Council for the third time after the two-year terms of 1952-1953 and 2005-2006.
According to a relevant announcement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Greece undertakes to work in accordance with the tripartite axis “Dialogue-Diplomacy-Democracy” and will vigorously promote the priorities of the Greek candidacy, the peaceful resolution of disputes, respect for International Law, Women, Peace and Security, Climate, Peace and Security, Children and Armed Conflict and Maritime Security.
The term of Greece in the Security Council will officially launch on January 1, 2025, while from October to December 2024, the country will have an observer position in the Council.
Greece warmly thanks all the member states of the United Nations Organization which honored it with their vote.
