The German Armed Forces’ Cyber Innovation Unit has achieved a significant milestone in military technology by successfully demonstrating Unmanned-Unmanned Teaming (UMUM-T) between Unmanned Aerial vehicle (UAV) and Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV) for the first time in Germany.

This achievement, a product of collaboration between Quantum Systems and ARX Robotics, represents a major step forward in the development of advanced drone technology.

The demonstration, conducted at the German Armed Forces’ Technical Centre for Aircraft and Aeronautical Equipment, showcased the potential of this innovative concept.

During the exercise, an ARX Gereon Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV) positioned a Drone-Port, from which a Vector drone of Quantum Systems was launched for a reconnaissance mission. Upon completing its task, the drone safely returned and landed on the Drone-Port.

This successful demonstration allows for the extension of the operational range of reconnaissance drones as well as a reduction in drone operators’ risks.

Although the concept of combining ground and aerial uncrewed platforms is still under development, the potential of such software-driven, AI-supported systems is immense.
