Sanctions against Turkey remain on the table of the Europeans, German Foreign Minister Haiko Maas said today at a conference organized by the German airline Zeit entitled “Europe 2021”.
As Haiko Maas characteristically stated, “at the European Council we have made a decision that if the provocations and conflicts in the Eastern Mediterranean do not stop, then at some point there will be sanctions against Turkey. Sanctions are still on the table.”
He added that “as long as the constructive dialogue lasts, I do not see any reason to push more. It all depends on Turkey. Turkey is in a bad economic and social condition and is looking for better relations, especially with Europe.”
