On August 04, 2022, a delegation of the US House of Representatives led by Congressman Mr. Jason Crow visited the Hellenic National Defence General Staff (HNDGS).
The Chief of Staff, General Konstantinos Floros, welcomed the delegation, stressing the importance of the continuous and dynamic development of the strategic relationship between Greece and the USA. He also referred to the impact of the Russian invasion of Ukraine on the defence and security of the Euro-Atlantic area and the active participation of Greece in the actions of NATO so as to strengthen the Eastern wing of the Alliance.
The Chief also highlighted the role of the Armed Forces in the context of military collaborations and partnerships that have been developed in a bilateral and multilateral framework with North African, Middle Eastern and Balkan countries, contributing to the promotion and consolidation of Greece’s role as a reliable ally, partner and pillar of security and stability in the Eastern Mediterranean region and beyond.
He then, referred to the very important meetings held since his recent visit to the USA, to the joint operational training activities conducted within the framework of the recently updated Mutual Defence Cooperation Agreement (MDCA) as well as to the upgrading of the facilities in Souda and Alexandroupolis and their role in providing significant facilities to US and Coalition Forces.
Concluding his greeting, the Chief of Staff referred to the recent Joint Bilateral Training of Greece and the USA “POSEIDON’S RAGE 22” in which the F-15E Fighting Eagle and – for the first time – the F-35 Lightning II Fighter (to be acquired by Greece soon) were hosted in Souda, to the close cooperation of the Special Operations Forces of the 2 Countries as well as to the cooperation in terms of information, analysis and cyber defence exchange.
