At the international defence and security exhibition, EUROSATORY 2024, held in Paris, the German company Rheinmetall presented the Leopard 2 tank with an integrated Skyranger 35 Air Defence System.

In the past, Rheinmetall integrated the Skyranger 30 or Skyranger 35 Air Defence system into Boxer and Lynx AIFVs as well as RCV robotic vehicle. 

The Skyranger 35, with Oerlikon Revolver Cannon®KDG 35mm x 228, has an effective range of up to 4000m. Its rate of fire ranges from 1000 rounds/minute and  at 200 rounds/minute at semi-automatic mode. It is compatible with AHEAD 35mm ammunition. Without ammunition, the turret of the system weighs 3.5 tons, but with ammunition, the weight goes up to  3.95 tons.

The system displayed with two ROSY (2X10) rapid obscurant launchers, level 4 ballistic protection, and a 3D AESA 360° radar (S-Band or X-Band). The battle management software it uses is Oerlikon Skymaster®. Inside the vehicle, two consoles are installed, one for the commander and one for the gunner. The detection range of the system’s sensor unit is up to 35 km.
